We Are One U: Bogotá

Bogota Bogota

It was wonderful to see so many 'Canes at our recent We Are One U event in Bogotá on March 14. The welcome that President Frenk received from the University of Miami alumni community was incredible, and we are so grateful that so many of you were there!

President Julio Frenk

President Frenk shared perspectives on the position of higher education institutions nationally and called on the University of Miami community to plan not just for our 100th anniversary but for the 200th. "The University of Miami can increase its role as a magnet for talent," he said. "We must attract and retain people who stand out in the classroom, in the research lab, at the hospital bedside, and on the playing field." He outlined the groundbreaking ideas that have emerged from University stakeholders during his first year to guide UM's growth. Read more about the Roadmap for Our New Century.

Simulated Settings, Real-World Impact: How Simulation is Saving Lives and Charting a New Course for Healthcare

In the chaos of emergency rooms, environmental disasters and crises across the globe, healthcare providers make split-second decisions with lives in the balance. How do you prepare for that? The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies’ new, cutting-edge Simulation Hospital, one of the largest in the world, replicates the continuum of care from an apartment, to a physician’s office, to a hospital setting complete with operating rooms, labor and delivery suites, and critical care units. The Simulation Hospital is a living classroom for students, healthcare professionals, first responders, and corporate partners, and a proving ground for nurses, scholars and public officials to address global challenges like pandemics and natural disasters, as well as family challenges like caring for a loved one safely at home.
