Chantal Newallo was one of the top 150 high school students nationally in Trinidad & Tabago. In her first year at UM, she is studying geological and marine sciences and plans to pursue graduate work in geophysics. The first University of Miami/Payless ShoeSource Scholarship Recipient, Chantal belongs to the Caribbean Students Association, volunteers as a mentor, serves as a representative for her residential college, and plays on UM’s water polo club team. “The only way to experience what a university has to offer,” she says, “is to get involved and make a difference anywhere you can.”
